My father loved music. I'm sure he bought as much as he could afford. One of my all time favorite albums of his is the Cabaret soundtrack. He must have loved Liza Minnelli because he also had "Liza With A Z". I have bought both albums on CD over the years.
My father died when I was 11. He had just turned 38 on June 28, 1980. I didn't know him as an adult and have to rely on those who knew him for many of "my memories" of him. He had an illness that was only diagnosed when he was autopsied. I remember the doc saying that 1 in a million americans get sick with american burkitt's lymphoma. Years later I google researched and learned that A.B.S. is and AIDS defining illness. 5000 times more prevalent among the AIDS population than in the general population. He died before docs and scientists were calling it G.R.I.D. and before the H.I.V. virus was discovered. I'll never know conclusively... maybe the mystery needs to remain a mystery.
Watching the movie CABARET for the first time a decade ago, I felt like I was getting a glimpse into my father's world. I assume that he saw the movie and that he loved it.
I loved him and love him so much. He paved the way for me. For you, Dad. Life is a cabaret.
The odds are in my favor, somethings bound to begin.
LOVE U DADDY!!
I conceived and wrote this post in 10 minutes or less. It's been formulating within my mind for the past 30 years.
